Frequently Asked Questions

How should we select our videographer?

Chances are that you've already read numerous tip sheets on how to select a photographer or videographer. Three critical issues are: (1) Do you like the style and technical quality of the videographer's work? (2) Do you like the videographer as a person and will you be comfortable with him or her meeting all of your guests? (3) Can you do business with the videographer?

What distinguishes your work from someone elses?

Our wedding videos look and sound professional, with a creative touch. Content-rich videography captures the decisive moments of interest, and crisp editing brings them out. You get absorbed in the wedding movie like you do when you're watching a good film at a movie theatre.

What is the difference between your higher priced packages and the lower priced ones?

Our higher priced packages are distinguished by longer, more intense coverage and additional editing, additional videographers, additional DVDs and tapes, and additional Special Options such as Bride/Groom Preparations, Wedding Day Montage, Deluxe DVDs, Highlights DVDs, etc.

Do I really need my wedding professionally recorded on digital video?

Contemporary informed brides hold professional digital videography in high esteem. After-wedding surveys reveal that those who had their weddings filmed professionally on digital video consider it an excellent investment, while those who failed to do so are often regretful.

One of the biggest regrets some couples experience after their wedding is over is the decision to trust a low-end videographer with their wedding day. These so-called "pro" videos often fail due to poor audio, poor low-light images, inadequate planning and coordination to blend with the flow of the event, shaky images, insufficient battery capacity, and poor editing. Remember, if the finished video is low-quality, transferring it to DVD will not improve it. Ask yourself this if you are at all tempted to choose based on the lowest bid or the best deal financially: If the video turned out poorly, would you write a letter of recommendation saying "The video was poor but your price was great"?

What type of equipment do you use?

We use broadcast-quality digital equipment. Such as our Sony HVR FX1 high definition professional camcorders. Equipped with pro audio features such as BeachTek High Definition audio that uses line level instead of mic level, and has it's own noise-free pre-amplifiers. We also use professional Sennheiser K2 microphone capsules with ME-66 (shotgun) and ME-62 (omni-directional) microphones to record sound. Or our Panasonic AG-DVC200 camera, with three 1/2" CCD's and Canon 17X broadcast lens. We also use broadcast-quality UHF diversity (high-frequency) lavalier microphone systems at every wedding. And we edit on Sony professional digital edit systems (with DVD burners) at the highest quality level.

Don't you use bright, blinding lights?

No. Our cameras work well in low-light situations. We don't need to use lights at the ceremony, and use low-wattage, on-camera lights at the reception only for enhancing the image.

Won't the videographer(s) be obtrusive and disruptive?

No. We're always complimented on our low-key, unobtrusive approach to capturing the wedding day, and on our professionalism as well. Many couples tell us they forgot we were even there! We believe that the focus should be on the two of you, not us. We usually use tripods during the ceremony, going hand-held only during the processional and recessional. We don't usually move around or change positions since we do not wish to create any possibility of causing a distraction. If we do need to move, we do it discreetly. We'll also work closely with your wedding coordinator, photographer, DJ or band, and other vendors. We always make sure that we are not interfering with another vendor or with the guests.

Won't there be extention cords, cables and accessories that some guests may find uncomfortable?

No. We operate on battery power for the entire day, and use wireless microphones, so there are no cables, wires or accessories to make a guest feel uncomfortable. We respect both you, the other vendors and your guests, and do our best to make sure that everyone is comfortable with us.

What if my church has restrictions on video?

We will work within the guidelines set by your church with regard to videography, and pay the utmost respect to them. We appreciate it if you are able to notify us well in advance of these restrictions, so that we can plan accordingly. If your church will not allow your ceremony to be recorded, we offer a reception-only A La Carte package that's affordably priced.

Do you use wireless microphones?

We use high-frequency, UHF wireless lavalier microphone systems, plus on-camera microphones (referred to as "shotgun" mikes for their ability to focus on the sound and eliminate noise). This results in crystal-clear sound in your wedding movie. The wireless mikes are broadcast-quality, and operate on selectable higher frequencies than those used in most churches. Usually the groom wears one small lavalier microphone (which picks up sound during the vows and rings exchange), while another small wireless mike picks up the sound from the officiant and during the readings. The on-camera mikes provide back-up and sometimes the main sound. We record up to 6 channels of audio at the same time, and edit in audio from the microphone that has the clearest sound at that moment in your wedding.

When does your coverage start?

We usually arrive 45 minutes before the start of the ceremony, and begin filming immediately. If Bride/Groom preparations are included, we'll normally arrive at the "getting ready" location(s) at about the same time as the photographer, or a little before.

Do you bring back-up equipment?

Yes. We always have at least one back-up digital camera, as well as plenty of extra batteries, tapes, microphones, etc.

How much does it cost?

Our packages include 3 or more DVDs and unobtrusive ceremony and reception coverage. All packages include 2 videographer ceremony coverage (not an unmanned second camera) and include professional, all-digital shooting and editing, high-quality DVDs, and the talent and experience of some of New England's best wedding videographers, led by award-winning veteran broadcast TV Producer/Director Jim Nogueira. Prices start at just $1,595 for the Simple Elegance package! There's no better value available for this level of quality.

How long will the finished DVD be?

Finished DVDs usually fall somewhere between one and two hours long, depending on the length of your ceremony and reception. The average length is about 90 minutes.

Will the DVD be compatible with my DVD player?

Our DVDs (DVD-R) are compatible with most DVD players. We can instead make a DVD+R if needed.

Do I have a choice of music?

Yes, we encourage you to select music for the montages. We can provide music from our Music Library, or you may provide your own (preferably on CD).

When will my finished wedding movie be ready?

The time frame is usually 6-12 weeks after the event.

Who will actually be producing my wedding video?

Jim Nogueira, a broadcast TV veteran who has been producing wedding videos for over 18 years, edits every wedding movie and usually operates the main camera.

What should I look for in demonstration videos?

Insist on seeing real weddings and hearing the real sound. Look for crisp, clear images with good accurate color and smooth camerawork as well as clear, understandable sound.

On the demo you sent us, your initials were on the lower right hand corner of the screen throughout the video. Was that just there because it is a demo or will the final project have your initials on it?

The initials are there only for the demo, they will not appear on your video.

Can I see a sample of your work?

Certainly. We will send you a free demo DVD or video with no obligation. Just call or e-mail us and ask for one, or fill out our Request Form. How much of a down payment is required to book our wedding day?
